How to Use the Graph Tool
 

Chart Types

At the top of the left panel, use the Chart Type dropdown to pick one of three chart types:

• Standard Graph: For just about any non-bar chart physics graph you could ever possibly need.  

• Energy Bar Chart: bar chart for before/after energy comparisons

• Momentum Bar Chart: bar chart for before/after momentum comparisons
   

Standard Graph

• Graph Info: set the Graph Title and an optional Caption (the caption appears below the graph in all exports)

• X-Axis and Y-Axis: set the name and unit for each axis

• Axis Settings: set X Min, X Max, Y Min, Y Max, and tick intervals for both axes

• Each Series has its own settings block:

  • Series Label: the name shown in the legend

  • Type, choose from: Linear, Quadratic, Sinusoidal, Exponential Decay, Piecewise, Inverse, Power Law, Step/Constant, Sketch (Freehand), or Thermodynamic Cycles

  • Each type shows its own relevant fields (for example, Linear shows Slope and Y-Intercept)

  • Piecewise lets you add multiple segments, each with its own X Start, Type, and equation fields, plus toggles for continuous segments and whether the curve starts/ends at the first/last segment

  • Style section: line color, line style, thickness, Show Trendline, Show Data Points

  • Shading section: shade the area under the curve

• Use "Add Another Curve" at the bottom to add more series to the same graph

• Display Options (apply to the whole graph): Show Grid, Show Axis Arrows, Show Tick Marks, Show Intersection Points, Show Legend

• Color Overrides let you set custom background, axis, and text colors instead of following the light/dark theme
   

Energy Bar Charts

• Drag Step sets how much each bar changes per drag on the canvas

• Show scale lines & segmented bars adds reference lines and splits stacked bars into segments

• Energy Bars section: Before and After columns, each holding one or more bars

  • Each bar has a color, a name, a value, a visibility toggle, and a delete button

  • Add Bar adds another bar to that column

  • Bars can also be dragged directly on the chart to change their value

• W_EXT (EXTERNAL WORK): a separate value between the Before and After columns, with its own visibility toggle

• Show Balance Check and Show balance status (checkmark/X) display whether Before + W_ext equals After

• Hide "before" total and Hide "after" total blank out those totals, useful for a worksheet where students fill in the missing value
   

Momentum Bar Chart

• Drag Step sets how much each bar changes per drag on the canvas

• Momentum Bars section: add objects (for example, Cart A, Cart B) with Add Object

  • Each object has a name, a p_initial value, and a p_final value, each with its own color

  • Bars can also be dragged directly on the chart to change their value

• Show Impulse Bar (J) adds a separate impulse bar with its own value field

• Hide initial total and Hide final total blank out those totals for student worksheets
   

Saved Presets

• Click "Saved Presets" to expand the panel

• Save Current Config lets you name and save your current graph setup, with an optional note

• Example Presets are built-in starting points you can load (for example, Constant velocity, Uniform acceleration, Simple harmonic motion)
   

Exporting

Click Export for these options:

• Copy as Image (PNG)

• PNG, raster image

• SVG, vector graphic

• PDF, A4 printable
   

There is also a separate Copy button next to Export for quickly copying the current view.
